The seasons are well and truly changing – we can feel it in the crisp breeze, cooler mornings and earlier sunsets. Autumn is the perfect time of year in Canberra, where we enjoy temperate, long days perfect for an outdoor picnic or barbecue, and chillier evenings accompanied by hearty meals. Truly the best of both worlds.
Make the most of this time of year by getting in the spirit of autumn cooking, which really means a little bit of everything, depending on the weather! Enjoy the warmer, sunny days and stop in to Cook & Co for the best cheeses and accoutrements to enjoy on your weekend picnic (hint: Telopea Park is a 5 minute walk away and makes for the most picturesque autumn picnic spot), or check out our barbecue room for some Olsson’s Great White Sea Salt Rub or Boutique Beef and Rib sauce to do one more long barbecue lunch before the weather does get a little too cold for outdoor eating.
On one of the cooler autumn weekends, why not set your mind to some low and slow cooking. Try a hearty soup – we love using our Le Creuset dutch oven for soups and stews – or slow cooked pasta sauce to accompany your Pastaficio Venturino Radiatori, topped with some of our parmigiano reggiano and melange of peppercorns.
For a warming weeknight fix, a dumpling soup using our frozen dumplings (try them in chicken, beef, pork or veggie) with udon, some asian greens and chilli crisp is just the trick.
We haven't forgotten about the drinks, either. You always need something to sip on while you get creative in the kitchen, and autumn weather really does lend itself to a negroni – top yours with our freeze-dried blueberries for an extra kick.
We well and truly have you covered for all your autumn cooking needs. Come in and see us at 25 Jardine St, browse the shelves and get inspired for the next couple of weeks of autumnal cooking.
